Lehigh Acres was on fire yesterday!

The news was posted to the Sanibel board, and then I went to the sites for NBC2 and the Fort Myers News-Press to find out more.  Looks like a number of wildfires were burning in the northeast corner of Lehigh Acres.  Judging from the map on Google, looked to be about 5 miles from my new house, and even closer to Alan & Todd's new villa.

I called Alan, who was not worried for either of our houses.  That helped to ease my mind.  My comforting thought was that at least all my worldly goods are here, not there!

This morning, it looks like the situation is under control.  Fifteen houses were lost, and thousands of acres burned.

I haven't even spent ONE night in that house yet - how ironic would THAT have been?

In other news - I had mentioned that one of the reasons for putting off the actual move so long was that there's a memorial concert for my voice teacher on Sunday May 7th.  Well, now I'm told there's a family party that day - we're taking my mother to lunch at Captain Bill's down on the water in Bay Shore, because half of us will not be in town for Mother's Day the following week.  Damn.  So now I have to call Joy and tell her that yes, I was able to arrange the actual move for AFTER the concert, but no, I won't be able to participate.

DAMN.

Well, at least I sang at Gloria's memorial party.  Not too many people were ready to sing at that point, with her death so fresh a wound for everyone.  I sang the first thing she ever taught me (Debussy's Beau Soir), plus the aria she always chose whenever I told her I couldn't decide what I wanted to sing in my lesson, and that I was taking requests (Va! laisse couler mes larmes from Massenet's Werther).

I've learned that if you plan your work, then work the plan, you can have what you want... most of the time.  Sometimes, even if you want it badly enough, you just can't make it happen.
